Last week was a rough one - Mina got roseola and had a 105 fever, which was really scary. For those unfamiliar, roseola is a very common contagious virus that many babies/toddlers get, which starts with a high fever (usually above 103) for 3-4 days, & ends with a rash all over the body (non-itchy). Once the rash starts, the fever is usually gone & baby should start feeling better.

The first night, I thought it was a low grade fever from teething (under 101). Her ped said to give tylenol to help w discomfort. The next day, her fever shot up so we went to the dr's. Since Mina didn't have any other symptoms except fever, the Dr said it could be a UTI, which is common for girls. We had to place an adhesive pee bag on her to collect a sample. Tests came back negative, so the Dr said it could be roseola if a rash breaks.

We gave her Motrin every 6-8 hours, with Tylenol in between (after 3 hrs) to stave off her fever. The first couple times she threw up the medicine because she hated the taste. She learned to tolerate it, although crying (I alternated a squirt of med w/ a bite of strawberry). I also soaked a muslin floppy hat with cool water to help her head stay cool & keep the fever down.

On the 3rd night, she seemed to be getting better, but right before bed she got really irritable, to the point where I was so worried we rushed to the ER. Luckily, once we got there she started feeling better & was all cleared during her check-up.

It was incredibly scary & stressful being a FTM and never having experienced a high fever before & not knowing the cause. So many what if's. What if she has a negative reaction to Tylenol/Motrin? What if her fever spikes so quickly she has a seizure? What if she wakes up screaming in the middle of the night? What if it's not a UTI or roseola & we don't know what it is? I just kept praying for her to get better quickly. She's usually such a happy & playful baby. Seeing her so lethargic & uncomfortable made me so sad. She only wanted to be held & didn't even want to stand. Luckily, by the 4th day, she started to get a rash on her shoulders/chest/back and her fever started to go down. [Cont. in comments]

Anniversaries in Santa Barbara, where we got marri

Anniversaries in Santa Barbara, where we got married, are becoming a new tradition! Yesterday we took Mina to the zoo for the first time, which she loved! It was so fun to see her laugh and light up looking at all the animals and other kids. It wasn't crowded and everyone was wearing masks, which put me at ease. We then went to the beach, walked around & got ice cream. Such a nice little day trip with the fam 😊❤️🥰
