The holidays were a little different this year, like most families, in that we weren’t able to spend it with our extended families due to the pandemic. Every year we spend Christmas Eve with my family, and then fly to Hawaii on Christmas Day to spend it with David’s family. I’m glad we were able to go last year when Mina was 5 months old so that David’s family and friends could meet her. Hopefully someday soon we can make a trip out!
Even though we couldn’t travel, we made the best of our holiday season.
The week of Thanksgiving we got our Christmas tree and slowly started decorating – it’s hard to get it all done at one time with a toddler! But taking my time decorating really allowed me to savor the holiday season. When we went to the Christmas tree farm, Mina loved exploring through the trees.
Almost every other night in December, we went to look at Christmas tree lights throughout our neighborhood. Mina loved running around and pointing at all the lights and inflatables. It’s so fun to see the wonderment and awe in her eyes.
The week of Christmas, we went to my parents house and enjoyed lunch outside, sitting at our own table at a distance from the rest of the family. We rarely get to see them to ensure everyone’s safety, so it was nice to make a quick visit for Christmas.
On Christmas day the three of us relaxed and opened presents. Now that Mina’s a toddler and more independent, we enjoyed watching her open all of her gifts. The joy and excitement on her face brought us our Christmas magic.
